Do you hold some numbers more than others for fun?
Let us say you have a pair of 5s and 7s in a game where you don't need to hold both pairs. I always hold 7s even if the odds of scoring are the same with the 5s. Anyone else have favorites or strange things they do?I also like to hold red cards instead of black when odds are close to the same.

I've never had any faith in superstition or in luck. I do wear the same hat to the casino. There's two reasons for that. The glare from my bald head reflects onto the screen so I have to cover it up. And, it's the same hat because I'm too cheap to buy a new one.
As for VP hands, if I'm dealt four to an inside straight, and I can throw away either end to draw for the middle, I'll usually keep the low. I guess it has to do with the way I recognize the straight. I "see" the low straight before the high one. Example: 34578. I need a 6 so it really doesn't matter. I'll throw away the 8.

I do not have faith in superstition or luck either. But if I get lucky it might as well be on 7's instead of 5's. And with my lucky socks on.

Isn't this a slightly corny thread? And Mike, it is a losing play to go for an inside straight even in 10/7DB. NEVER do that. That's one of the first changes I teach players who want to learn to win.

I like corn.
I do too, but corn alone won't help you in vp.

I'm a big popcorn eater--no butter. I'm having some right now with a Sam Adams.

Okay then we can be friends again bubba! I can not stay mad long. You are right that I do not have a lot to gamble with and I do not know a lot yet. But more than you think I bet. I just get stuck on whether to hold two pairs or only one sometimes. I like to know the best play to make even if I am not playing with a lot because I want to make the most of what I will bet no matter what.

Must be one of your "special plays" Rob. The nasty ole math formula says that in DB you have a .481 coin better earnings potential by going for the straight. DDB, it's .078 better to go for the straight.
With that said, you may be right. I recall seldom hitting that gut-draw straight, but do know that I hit a lot of 2-pr and JOB hands when I throw them all away.
I guess the "odds" are calculated based on the 20-coin or 25-coin win on the straight. You'll only hit the straight 4/47 of the time (1 out of 11.75 attempts). I guess the probabilities are saying that you'll pair up fewer than 5 times in 11.75 initial draws. But psychologically, you feel better by throwing away the hand and drawing to and hitting a less valuable hand more frequently.
Again, it's one of those "close calls."
