Winning day!

Post by FloridaPhil »

As you know, I've been playing single coin quarters for a couple of months now.  I play primarily 8/5 DDB with a budget of about $150 a day.  Since then, I've cut my average loss down to less than $40 a day.  It's cheap fun, but I haven't won much.  Interestingly enough, I haven't hit a quad at max coins until last Thursday.   I had played about three hours and was up about $100.  I was tired and told my wife I was going home even and wanted to bet my winnings and go home. My plan was to play the first $50 at a dollar and the last $50 at .50.  I put in a $100 and within 5 hands hit a quad for $250.  I decided to play down to $200 and cash out.  The second quad came 5-6 hands later and now I've won $500!   I played down to $500 and went home.  This put me up for the entire time I have been playing single coin.   In the old days, I would have given back the $500, but I'm older and wiser now.   I know I could have made a lot more money if I stayed, but it felt so good to go home a winner for a change.

Phil my dearly departed brother in law used to leave for the casino with a pocket full of cash and it seemed that he wasn't happy until: he was coming home with either lint in his pockets or 5 times the amount of cash that he went with.

Play smart and put the winnings into your gambling kitty. Making small hits in video poker is almost akin to baseball: you can either score a run by hitting a home run but you can also score a run by hitting three singles.

Congrats,

Ted

I totally agree.   Money management is "way" more important to a recreational player than any other factor. I used to be like your late brother-in-law and lost a bunch of money trying to score big all the time.   These days, I'm thrilled if I walk out with even a small loss.  The winning days take care of themselves.

With the great hits Roveer made and the stradegy of florida Phil, I will embark on these next 12 days in Laughlin an Vegas, with confidence, enthusiasm, visions of good hits coming my way and no negative thinking to get in my way. On the other hand, if things dont go my way, there is always Oatman and the biting burros and a trip to Hoover Dam to occupy my time. OMG, It will be good. It will, it will....Good thoughts would be appreciated from my VP friends..bad joojoo will not be an option. I will post all my winnings when I get back..

I'm beginning to think that you can tell if you're going to have a good day within 30 minutes of starting play. It seems like if I start off bad, the whole day will be a giant lose fest.   Now, if I could just think of something to do for the rest of the day.  If you've already seen Hover dam, Death Valley is a neat thing to see...

My biggest session of the year, I was down over $70 after an hour and was about ready to quit.

PHIL. if I don't have a great day, I intend to hit up the Heartattack Grill. on Fremont .I have always wanted to go there, but after the 3rd guy died standing at the bus stop, it may be the biggest bet I will make in Vegas. Skip the big pat of butter in the malt though..ishy. NO, I am going to have a fabulous time, no matter what. Last big bash before I get my knee operated on and its going to be a memorable time. Cannot think pessimistically..must be optimistic every second. My poney is in there somewhere, and He is mine. (wonder if Southwest will ship home a poney..if i win him, he goes with me!)
