And here's yet another column on minimum wage. The money quote:
More generally, while over time the cost of higher minimum wages will overwhelming [sic] be passed along to consumers in the form of higher prices, in the short run each business will experience the change as a cost increase.

Businesses get hit with cost increases all the time, and they usually don't identify a specific response to each particular increase.

They assess pricing and use of inputs on an ongoing basis and make whatever adjustments they think are best in maintaining profits.

People's ideas of which of these adjustments are moral is highly subjective and quirky at best.

If pork prices go up, no one thinks it immoral to raise the price of the pulled pork sandwich. No one claims it is unfair to farmers and meatpackers if restaurants buy less pork.
teachers pay is similar to what they would get in the private sector they dont have the upsideas some high tech workers but they have more job stability, since 2000 the teachers have been the winners in a 2% gdp world, which screwed the rest of the world now the public workers need to "even out"

Being married to a 1st grade teacher, I have stopped counting at her 100 plus hours a week never mind the good part of the summer she spends at school to make everything just right for the new school year. There are also things like mandatory meeetings now after school for no extra pay. The lessons are always out and being worked on at home or in the car. With the new state mandates and controls by the board, I don't know how anyone would want to go into that field now. Many new teachers especially in the primary grades change their minds about that career after seeing first hand what is required in the classroom and at home. All I can say is the kids are really lucky to have such a good and dedicated teacher as my better half. Many have come back to visit and thank her for such a strong beginning foundation she gave them many years ago.

(starting salary 100k)       Now, there would be a HUGE revamping of who can qualify as a teacher, but at that salary, a whole slew of qualified, interesting candidates would be available.      I dont see HOw we can entrust our children to anyone who is not properly qualified, and PAID, to shape and form and guide our childrens' future.School teachers USED to be one of the most highly respected, and important, positions in American society.    We need to get it back to those days.....
