i do plenty of complaining about the casinos, so i think it only fair to point out when they exceed expectations. vman, not sure if they are new or old, but they have had the same machines for at least 8 years.  otabill, you are correct, some folks really pound on them. i just think that VP is not a high priority for casinos, they want slot players.

Those are "old" to me. Most CET properties have replaced nearly all their VP machines in the last 18 months to my knowledge. Maybe Cherokee is an exception?
I think I've read somewhere on this forum that CET struck a deal with IGT/Action Gaming not too long ago to order more of the newer game king machines, but I think it was only for the Vegas jurisdiction. At least at the three CET properties in Vegas I've visited earlier in the year I never saw an old machine like I did at Gold Coast and Palms. I think MGM places on the strip (based on last year's trip) still carries Game Kings that are at least 5 years old, the ones where there are no caption in between the cards and the paytables to inform you what you've won.

The new machines are definitely nice, it is fast (I do not think there are pauses after 100 hands) and use the high resolution LED screens, the text on the pay table look sharp. The high contrast in color may not be good for some people. I think the screens definitely benefit the Keno players more. Despite the new machines, the payouts are not great.

I saw 8/5 DDB, 6/5 Bonus, 7/5 Jacks or Better, 25/16/13/4/3 Deuces Wild, and 9/5 DB.

The Game Kings at the high limit rooms at the Rio and Caesars Palace were also updated, but those kept their good paytables, ugh not many can play at $5 denominations.

just got back from 12 hour gambling sesson at cherokee. lost money playing VP, but came home with $200 more than i took. don't know if other casinos still do this, but cherokee mails out coupons each month, that one feeds into the machine. no electronic downloads, like many others have. one of the coupons i often get is for 'mystery money'. you do not know the amount until you feed it into a machine. i normally get around $25, although once i got $100. first machine i go to, insert the coupon and see i have been awarded 2000 credits ($500) in free play. never hit a premium hand, but got many low paying quads. so, instead of losing $300 from play, i came home with an extra $200, due to coupon.

How ironic..When I mentioned in another thread that losing money on play alone isn't always the only factor on how one does for the year, I seem to remember some remark about not being able to pay utility bills with a free room coupon.
Casino don't just give away free room coupons, they also give away free play that can be turned into cash, $ from drawings, multiple point days that can be turned into free play, cars, gift cards ,among other things.
And unlike a free room coupon, some of these things at times can be used to pay utility bills , like when winning $200 in cash from a free play coupon, even after losing at play alone.

Just think what kind of opportunities a pro in NV gets with hundreds of casinos to choose from, with 100's of promotions and drawings a day, who's putting lots of $ through the machines generating lot's of points/free play/ cash back/ mailers/and tickets into drawings.
These are just a few real examples of what I meant when I said some times losing at play alone isn't the only factor on how one did for the year.

half expected a comment like this. and, yes, it is ironic that my prior post seems to have come back to bite me in the butt. after 8 years of playing VP, although at a considerably moderate pace than a pro, i can attest to ONE example of losing and coming home ahead. i never mentioned the time i won a grand in a drawing and still lost that day.    i am sure one could cite an example of someone who smoked 5 packs of cigs a day, ate 3 double cheese pizzas, drank a bottle of scotch and never excerised and lived to a ripe old age. or, someone who never saved, spent everthing and one day ran into bill gates, who handed him a couple of million for his retirement. sorry, i will stick with the odds of life. keep believing that what might happen, what is possible, but is not likely, will happen.     one last item, you are welcome to believe want and who you want, i will listen to steve wynn.

went to cherokee on sunday for 13 hour play session. had more good possibilities at premium hands than i can count, but none came through. i was getting creamed. with 45 minutes before i eventually left, one machine dealt me quad 4wk ($200), another machine dealt me quad 2wk ($200) and the last machine i was on, i got a RF ($1k), got my butt out. left with a little more than $100 than i brought with me. 100% absolute lucky. all three machines had poor paytables, i just happened to be sitting at the right machine at the right time.

Sorry for the delay on this. Got bumped.

Every CET property I have been to has followed through on putting in new game kings. All of Vegas, Harrah's Joliet, Harrah's N. Kansas City, Horseshoe Hammond, Horseshoe Cincinnati, Horseshoe Tunica, and Tunica Roadhouse.

Some of the casinos have held on to a small fraction of the old games. Also they're usually the ones with the better paytables. Surprised? I'm not.

Congrats on the Royal, notes! But yeah, I mainly try to avoid massive daily sessions like that because hitting a Royal and not being a substantial winner doesn't sound that fun. But would happen more often than you'd think after 13 hours of 7/5 or 8/5 DDB, especially if you play fast. But if I hit a royal (almost 3 years now), I want to win for the day dammit!

thanks vman, was not looking for kudos, just wanted to provide full results and show how lucky i was. i play the long sessions because i have to travel so far to be able to play. i have had numerous times that i won a grand, pretty much the max for a single line quarter player, and lost for the day. i know it is a tough concept for many to accept and i am not urging others to feel this way, but while i like to win, i am more interested in getting what i consider a fair value for the money i spend on anything.

if I hit a royal (almost 3 years now), I want to win for the day dammit!-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I want to win for six months. I have, since January's Royal. But the weekly visits have taken their toll. On precipice of slipping into the red. Hopefully, better luck when I switch to  vaunted Borgata. The misery experienced on the AC Boardwalk has been well documented, time to adapt and survive.

i guess i would look at it differently. you have had your fun, maybe scored some free stuff from the casinos and it has not cost you anything. i would call you a winner. congrats!
