Surviving 9/6 JOB with no Royals and few quads.

Surviving 9/6 JOB with no Royals and few quads.

Post by olds442jetaway »

All I can say is this works for me. You do need a decent bankroll though and 500 bucks is ideal. You can start with 1 quarter or 5. If I have a smaller bankroll that day, I start with 1 and eat the Royal penalty of close to 2 percent. Based on my record, I assume I am not going to get one anyway. I don't know what the probability of ruin on a 500 dollar bankroll is, but so far so good after about 10 sessions. I will say in advance, you won't get rich either, but usually survive again to play another day with the same money.
Every time my total number of losing hands exceeds my number of winning hands by 5, I up my bet by one unit. If I have 10 more losing hands than winning, I up my bet by another unit, 15 more losing hands than winning another unit and so forth. I back it down accordingly too and anytime my bankroll exceeds my starting total, I return to my starting 1 unit bet. The thrill if any comes along when hitting a Royal with many quarters bet or even a quad. So far not busted, but that will be inevitable I guess at some point. I also have no trouble building up status points or other comps playing this way and it is nice not to have to hit the bank or ATM before every session. Will it last? Who knows, but I have been bailed out a couple of times on quadless days when the full houses and flushes were hitting close together. Finally, I play this way on single line games. The higher variance on multi line games probably will call for bets higher than I care to make them. You also need a machine that will take more than 5 units. 25 would be ideal. Failing that, the ability to up your denomination to 50 cents or a dollar would be a substitute, though not ideal.

If it works for you, I say go for it.  One advantage of being a recreational player is that we can adjust the game to fit our own particular likes and dislikes.  Personally, I like to hit $1,000 hands without paying for the privilege. That's why I don't consider a $62.50 royal flush a disaster.  Whatever floats your boat!

62.50 is still better ours than theirs. I am still splitting my time up between the Martingale clone as described below, the Phil method, and a little 3 cent spin poker or 5 cent multi-strike double bonus deuces wild thrown in. For some reason though, I seem to hit quad deuces almost every session while playing job, and only about every third session while playing deuces wild in any form of the game. That would be with about the same number of hands played also. To add insult to injury, my last 2 sessions, I hit quad aces with kickers while playing job 5 times between the two sessions. That doesn't bother me so much since I almost never play DDB, but still.......I guess when my 500 bank does bust, I may rethink things, but playing this way this last cycle which ends on Sept 30th, has allowed me to reach level 3 at Mohegan already. I also noticed they have increased their free play on my account, offered more rooms, shows, and giveaways. I know I can't bank any of that, but the rooms sure do come in handy sometimes especially after a marathon session. Maybe someone can come up with the probability of ruin playing the way I have described below. In the interim, I always give the Phil method a shot for awhile on every session. Still waiting for that hit on something with other than 1 coin in.

I'd be sitting on the sidelines in a lounge on Max Coin Mayhem.

Yesterday was a JOB banner day. Not only did I win on a Sunday for the first time in ages, but in all three casinos visited. My Time on Device metric must be atrocious. At Caesars I turned my $25 free play into $36, thanks to some great full house frequency. Despite the success, I hightailed it to Borgata, where I won $39 more. Two quads, one each on min and max coins. It was like being welcomed back by old friends. My issues with their machine quality were so petty and overblown. Each of my three machines there was a winner. Every employee seemed to be on happy pills. Did some scouting and browsing. Finally slowed down and hailed down a waitress for a drink. Back to boardwalk to win $6 at Bally's in a severely brief session. The Bally's Banger was back at the full pays, raining down his wrath on the defenseless buttons. Three machines away, yet still unnerving. I cashed out and left town early. Mental note to avoid the casino on Sun afternoons.

Sounds like a good day.  Any win is better than the alternative...

Oh yeah. Sun was feeling like a designated loss day for me. Based on past pain, I felt like it was bound to break bad at Caesars. It turns out that I should have enjoyed the grand comforts of Borgata for an extra two hours instead of packing it in and repairing to my departure venue. I had forgotten all about the banger, chalking it up as a one time wacko occurrence! What a grand nuisance. Seems like a Sun PM regular, as luck would have it.

Nice hits FAA. Speaking of players causing the casino to lose our business, I haven't been to Foxwoods in over a year now. They used to get a good chunk of my action until this chain foot long cigar smoker started playing right next to one of the few 100 play penny poker machines. He lights up at 5AM every day, puffs clouds of stinkbombs everywhere, and ruins everyone's day in short order. He alone cost them all of my business which based on the 50k I unfortunately dropped at Mohegan last year was no small loss for Foxwoods. Keep the JOB quads streak going. Phil, my last 2 sessions have been void of quad deuces too, even with lots of the play on multi line games with up to 20 lines played at a time. Between last night midnight and 6 AM, I had 7 or 8 3 deuces dealt and couldn't connect on any. Also, usually at some point in a deuces session, I get dealt a wild royal and also a dealt 5 of a kind. They dried up too. JOB quads got my money back in short order last night too, but unfortunately, I pumped back into the deuces game. I was ahead gas money too and didn't quit....grrrrr....

Olds, I am a non smoking low roller and I can tolerate the cigarette smoke. But faced with a foot long cigar regular, who delighted in blowing it to boot, I'd surrender also. I figured 5 AM is the safest time of day too! Our entertainment value is severely reduced by exposure to these boors, and in some cases our health too! Let's vote w our bank rolls. Mohegan gives ample warning to all customers, I believe. Their very name's translation is wolf! Unfortunately, you are Exhibit A. You were royally sheared and fleeced!

Casino cigar smokers are arrogant A-holes!  They know it bothers other people and only smoke in the casino to keep others from sitting near them.  I called one of them out for it once and almost got into a fist fight.  That would have been a really funny site to see two old guys wrestling around on the floor.      I learned my lesson and now I just move to another part of the casino.  That's the nice thing about multiple casino towns, you can just leave and go somewhere else.
