Re: September update.
Every AC casino I go is is friggin; PACKED on the weekends, even now, after Labor Day. Tons of people gambling. While this observation is, for the most part TRUE, it is still deceiving in terms of the BIG overallpicture, which of course is what roveer is talking about:Weekends are pretty vibrant & busy at almost all reamining AC casinos the entire Year round (with one or two exceptions during x-mas and new years if and when a weekend falls right before one of th eholidays or in between the holidays, like december 27/28!)) Starting around 10pm Friday thru early Sunday Morning, a lot of people still journey to AC to cut loose on the weekends, although obviously there are some weekends which are more rockin' than others! Right now, during the Autumn period of late September thru November, up until Thanksgiving, Friday/Saturdays will be very busy at most ac casinos. But the downside is the people filling it up on the weekends do not play or gamble anywhere near the amounts they did 10 years ago or prior......and during the off-peak season (late september thru end of April) the place becomes a virtual ghost town in almost all the casinos except maybe Borgata, and what few people you find will be mostly senior citizens who have been going to AC for decades, the last vestiges of the previous boom time crowds that used to fill the casinos year round......Roveer is 100% correct.....the state of New Jersey, including the governor (ya know, that heavy set guy who enjoys the periodic donut), have written AC off and are now seeking to get casinos in the northern part of the state, supposedly to capture all the business that used to go to AC but now heads to Pennsylvania and New York, and elsewhere. Once a couple large casinos are up and running in Newark, AC will further implode and you can kiss Resorts, Ballys and maybe even the Taj or Caesars. In 5 years I think it will be the three marina casinos, and the Tropicana (and maybe the TAJ IF Icahn can implment his plan to save it and thus leverage his success with the Tropicana into the TAJ and give players added benefits from linking the two properties.)CET will have no choice, given its debt load, but to shut down the two Boardwalk places to cut costs.....The people running AC are clueless as to how to attract BACK even a portion of all the business they lost since 2007. Honestly, i say all they need to do is accept they will never make the money they used to, somehow come to terms with making a lower profit that still allows them to operate and SURVIVE, and thus send all former players who bolted to Pennsylvania some really awesome deals, like matching all SLOT offers from casinos outside AC to the tune of double or triple amounts; offer free rooms to ANYONE who will commit to returning and playing at or above a certain level....or just handout lots of free slot play and perks on a level never seen before. What do they have to lose????

WTG...I hope some of that discipline rubs off on me. Very few sessions have I not been up a hundred or so only to see it vaporize and much more. Lately, everything good seems to happen early in the session when you aren't even near ready to quit playing. Have to lick that beast fast or 2016 will end up just like all of the others over the years including unfortunately 2015 which is W-2G less a first for me.

aren't even near ready to quit playing. Have to lick that beast fast--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------That's exactly what goes on with me most of my visits! I had a three quad day Sat. Banner day, right? The Q3 cost is not worth the reward. Best to quit at the two hour mark if you are not doing Cheap Strategy, where you can have Energizer sessions with impunity. I did have a bizarre out the door one coin royal flush three weeks ago. Go figure.

Remember those infamous words from The Steve Miller Band: "Uh-uh,take the money and run."--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Actually I don't remember, much to my chagrin. I looked up the song. That line is repeated eight consecutive times at the end! I am not a rock connoisseur and just know SMB for Rock'n Me and Fly Like an Eagle. You learn a lot on this forum!

I went to my local place Green Valley Ranch yesterday to cash out my pro football parlay card for $440 bucks. I stuck a $100 bucks in a 98.9% payback machine. I got dealt quad 6's my third hand. Went to another machine and hit quad aces for $800. Then another machine and hit quad 4's for $400. Then I left. Leaving a winner is awesome.

Plenty of green in that valley, DD! I would have left after the first quad. No pain, no gain. Congratulations on an absurdly lucky day.

Listen Guys & Gals. Don't be confused by seeing what you think is a "packed" casino. They all have their days. Lots and lots of people playing pennies and nickels. At Harrah's the tables are empty except for a few craps tables, lots of folks wandering around and playing the small denom. On Friday night I was able to walk into the Diamond cove and play anything I wanted.
These places are NOT doing well, no matter what the crowd situation seems to be.
It's like going into a cold streak and thinking something has changed. Chances are, it's just a cold streak.
And for Harrah's "new convention center". Good luck with that. AC already has two + all the space that all of the hotels have. It take a lot to pay back what it cost to build and for once I can say that Harrah's probably gambled more than I ever have. I guess we'll see how they do. While I haven't looked at the numbers specifically for the casinos I have read reports that their numbers are down from previous periods. All while expenses continue to rise. Plus (as Da Burglar pointed out), there is possibly more competition on the rise from Northern NJ. Not what AC needs. I don't think that in the long term things are looking very good for AC.
As for Harrah's, they are probably still paying back the tab for upgrading all of their machines 2 years ago.
I don't wish them bad, but I'd say the tide has turned in the wrong direction for casino gambling, especially in AC and I don't think there's enough 10 dollar bar drinks for the under 30 crowd to turn things around.
Let's enjoy it while it lasts cause I think in 5 years we may all be crammed into one property.

+1Wow Roveer......I think you just captured the crown that was bestowed upon me several years ago, namely "King of Atlantic City Criticism (or BASHING)!" lol Take it, glad to have someone else wear it for a little while......I must say, I agree with all that you post on the topic of AC Roveer.....the only exception is in the area of what the future might have in store for AC. I truly believe that if.....IF.....IF the city, state and business "leadership" put their heads together, dropped all egos, and thought in terms of long range benefits, there is a solution to be had that would both 1) STOP THE BLEEDING and 2) Actually restore a modest portion of lost business to AC such that, over time, NONE of the remaining casinos need shut down and in actuality you might....MIGHT be able to resurrect a smaller property like the AC club or even the Trump Plaza (with its prime real estate and location!) But, alas, this is no doubt wishful thinking........Anyway, keep it up Roveer, the only way ANYTHING will change is if people like you, and MOI, and others keep sounding the alarm!
