Re: September update.
Sounding alarms on a chat board is highly unlikely to lead to AC salvation, much as we may like. We all agree it is packed on the weekend, only two to three days of the week if you want to throw in Friday night. And not exactly a high roller crowd beyond Borgata. Anyone can walk into the high roller area at Bally's and Caesars and play anything as well. CET is limping along, despite the nice Harrah's numbers. The Harrah's convention center may become a great place for employees to fill out paperwork after mass layoffs. It's no panacea; I just highlighted its creation.

+1Wow Roveer......I think you just captured the crown that was bestowed upon me several years ago, namely "King of Atlantic City Criticism (or BASHING)!"  lol Take it, glad to have someone else wear it for a little while......I must say, I agree with all that you post on the topic of AC Roveer.....the only exception is in the area of what the future might have in store for AC. I truly believe that if.....IF.....IF the city, state and business "leadership" put their heads together, dropped all egos, and thought in terms of long range benefits, there is a solution to be had that would both  1)  STOP THE BLEEDING  and  2) Actually restore a modest portion of lost business to AC such that, over time, NONE of the remaining casinos need shut down and in actuality you might....MIGHT be able to resurrect a smaller property like the AC club or even the Trump Plaza (with its prime real estate and location!) But, alas, this is no doubt wishful thinking........Anyway, keep it up Roveer, the only way ANYTHING will change is if people like you, and MOI, and others keep sounding the alarm!
You just said the dirty word... "leadership" I don't see it, and my personal feeling is even if there was a strong and cohesive group of leaders in AC I still don't believe they can reverse the changes that our occurring. Sometimes the patient just dies. I'm not bashing AC, i have nothing against it, it's brought me lots of enjoyment over the past few years, but I will say that my years on this earth studying why some things work and others do not has given me the opinion that I have. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to admit it.

FAA just yanked the crown from my hands. I'm fine with that. lets pass it around a bit. I don't think anything we say on this board is going to persuade one single opinion by the decision makers in AC. I've always been amazed that when I make a comment to Harrah's management that their perception of something is so totally different. They live in a bubble, but bubbles burst.
As for the convention center, all of the conventions I used to attend when I worked corporate have either folded up or are a fraction of their original size. I've even been invited to "webinar's" in place of conventions. The world has changed.

The Casino industry, outside of LAs Vegas, is mostly run and managed by second rate, or low energy executives who are perfectly content to just mail-it-in each week and keep collecting that fat salary .... up until a few years ago, they could simply mail-it-in because casinos essentially ran themselves and pulled in money no matter what was going on.....this is no longer the case, so now, in markets like AC which are staffed by the dregs of the casino industry management cadre (all the Stars and truly competent, ambitious management-types and executives are either in Vegas (the STRIP primarily), or Macau, or one of the more vibrant overseas markets like Europe, the Middle east, or other parts of ASIA....hell, even AUstralia offers more opportunity and upward mobility for ambitious competent casino managers/executives than AC or a place like Tunica.Hence, it is no surprise Roveer gets such clueless, deer-in-the-headlights type responses to his issues or complaints. I myself have also gotten this exact type of reply to many of my issues and inquiries in AC over the years....Many times, when I try to ask AC casino execs or managers/dealers/whoever about certain aspects of Video Poker, LIKE the entire "Is it Slots or is it Something more?" question, they look at me clueless, or they definitely nod and say "Oh of course, Video poker is another form of slots! Obviously!" I am 100% serious and this is why I keep bringing it up regardless of what everyone else insists (including Bob Dancer) ..... I have seen evidence that the people in charge of AC casinos, and the AC regulatory and oversight entity, are operating with some real ignorance and misunderstanding of the whole business. And if and when I ask AC Execs/managers/bosses/slot people, etc., about the whole "What's the expected return% on your casino's slot machines, and the video Poker machines, and what is the required minimum, etc etc" I get (and have gotten) totally bizarre answers mixed in with a few seemingly competent ones along with a lot of incompetent (or just plain WRONG/impossible) responses. It is almost surreal, and it would be hilarious if not for the many many thousands of people out of work in AC, the many many thousands out of work in surrounding towns or companies that SUPPLY AC casinos with stuff, and the hundreds of thousands of customers/people (like me) who now lose out on a great place to stay/play/visit/escape to.......

Yes, but big glass paneled half dombs eventually start to leak and fall apart.

The casino world, as we knew it, began to come apart when the owning corporations decided that each part of their casino operation - gaming, hotel, entertainment and F&B, had to be profitable on their own. Gone are the days when a host can give away everything in exchange for garnishing strong play on the casino floor.

Gone are the days when a host can give away everything in exchange for garnishing strong play on the casino floor. This is very true,, however, this has ALSO been the norm for so long I think the customer base and the industry in general has gotten used to it that no one really notices or cares anymore. I remember as far back as 2001 just before 9/11 when the corporations began gobbling up and consolidating all the BIG properties on the strip (right about the time Wynn sold Bellagio-Mirage-Treasure Isle-Golden Nugget to MGM ) that it began to be known that "we customers" who had been used to getting all kinds of stuff "comp'd" in exchange for out play started to have to pay for everything like our rides around the city (including transpo from the airport to out hotel!) to the postage stamps in the lobby! Every single comp item from that point forward had to be evaluated individually and had to be earned on its own merit based on your play.....when asked "WHY", I was told in 2001 that "EVERY DEPARTMENT, every store, every outlet, every function in the hotel has to now pay for itself!"Bummer....and you are correct, it has never really been the same since.

I will do CET shuttle again to exploit what little I can. I've grown sick of the jitneys. Dopey drivers, company radio broadcasting their prattle 24/7. It's a long fifteen or twenty minutes. I'd rather go to Harrah's and hoof it to Borgata.
