Re: My Journey on Video Poker
Nice royal!
But "far the best save?" The guy in the youtube missed a straight penalty...it happens. KQJ suited is correct with no straight or flush penalties, so I don't think he meant to really misguide the viewer. He just missed it.
Of course, I would avoid pointing out KQJ suited is a good hold anyway vs. KK-JJ because 90% of people watching that youtube will end up playing 8/5 or 9/5 where KK-JJ would always be correct.

I think there is just simply a lot of variance in video poker and one never quite knows when they sit down what's going to happen. I don't think the machines are rigged in AC or Vegas (I have a different opinion for Indian casinos and simply will not play video poker at those places. Would play regular poker and know I'm getting a fair shake, instead of hope.)
I don't really attribute a ton with a streak of wins or losses to my playing knowledge, but maybe a smidgeon. I studied a lot and play and analyze some on win poker software to make sure I play correctly. But I'm sure you take two equal video poker players in competency and speed and sit them down side by side. In two hours one would get vastly different results from the two. Is it because on is vastly better? Is one of the machines rigged? Of course not, it's the variance of the game.
Cheers
Ps saw a you tube video that irked me a bit. Some guy posted a "training" video on how to play ddb using correct strategy (listen,
If they don't have a well known name or rep, and don't use software to back it up, don't listen to them. Just saying). First hand he shows for analyzing is the Ad,Js,Qs,Jc,Ks. He said holding the Js,Qs,Ks is the best hold...WRONG. I have software to back me up. Saving the Js,Jc is far the best save at 145.6%.
Saving the suited JQK is 145.1%. Watch out for these jokers. Get software, it's essential.
Let me start by saying congrats on doing so well, I'm happy for you and I wish you the very best of luck always. I'm in agreement with you as for your observation concerning equal players ending up with different results over a two hour playing session but over time both players will experience the ups and downs as it is part of the game. Where we part ways is your thinking that the games you are playing are no different than the games I am exposed to, how would you know? I'm quite comfortable stating that if you were exposed to playing the same exact machines I've been playing over a period of time your attitude would change. I've played vp in this area for about 23 years so I'm no newbie to the game, something changed here a few years back. I can't say how they did it or how they get away with it but the game I played for years is not the same. I don't use the word "rigged" because I'm not comfortable with it, I prefer "different" or possibly "adjusted" when it comes to describing some vp in this area. I can't say it's all the same around these parts because I simply don't have the time or money to find out. I can say it would appear tha many players have made the decision that it is different because they simply don't play anymore. As for myself I've tried to hang on, for 18 years running I played $2 and $5 denomination with no real problems or concerns, I don't touch either of those denominations anymore, fact is many casinos around these parts don't bother offering those denominations any longer. I get the variance of the game, I lived with and accepted it for years, I don't buy it anymore, something else is going on.

+201.25... .25c single line 10/6 ddb. Made this a fast session. Didn't play for more than 30 min and decided to go home and walk the dog and take care of things. Was a good 30 min though, 2 quad 3's no kicker, straight flush, one regular quad, and made a lot of straights and flushes. Will leave up and tomorrow is another day.
Cheers
Ps I don't play in AC; therefore can't say your wrong or your right. But your observation will definitely be noted if I make my way over there someday.
Pss okay, maybe the "by far the best hold" is an exaggeration. But it wasn't the best hold for 10/6 ddb. I guess you know the video I'm talking about. Unless my software is lying to me, JJ the best hold for 10/6. For 9/6, suited JQK best hold by .5%. Apologies for that. Good points. Always learning something.
Cheers

Damn straight, DB. There is just no burn at most AC venues for your money. I took the clunker machine yesterday as it was the first one available. I'll cool my heels next time. I went through $30 in 45 minutes, which never happens to me, except at that machine!
45 min at one machine? You would have to tie me down hand cuff my legs to keep me at one machine for longer than 10 min.

As someone mentioned before; I guess there will always be those who think the machines are rigged, tampered with, adjusted, "set different" etc. and there will always be those who don't think that way. To each their own...

Your point is that I did not give the machine a chance. I have now concluded for sure that it is simply a flat out loser on the bank. I wouldn't touch it again with a twenty foot pole.

Once again to each their own, but I don't understand these players who spend a maximum 5 minutes per machine and just hop from machine to machine. There is a regular player I know who plays the same time I do, very late, and I've seen play as few as 5 spins then goes to the next machine. It would not surprise me if he plays every machine in the darn casino lol so except for burning calories, playing slower, or change in scenery, I really don't see the advantage here. To me, video poker is a numbers game. The more spins you put in, the more likely and closer you get to the big hits. Always exceptions for sure, but that's the general rule. According to my software, for JOB, it takes statistically 423 hands to hit a quad. Whether you sit on one machine and bang away for hours, or play every job machine in the room, I don't see this number changing.
I'd rather get there sooner than later, so I'll just stay put on a clean machine with good buttons and bang away.
Cheers

I agree with your thoughts, I would not relinquish sitting on a machine with a good paytable or working quality buttons. There are only 3 seats of VP in the non smoking area so I try to get on that before the Keno players do. I will play on a single machine 2 hours, take a break and play on the same or different machine for 2 more hours and call it a day.

-700... .25c 10/6 ddb...yuk. maybe I cursed myself for lambasting the quick stop and go players? Lol
at any rate, my second worse session ever on this game...the top was -750...at least this one I hit a few quads, one of them 4 aces no kicker, but the misses were fast and furious and only hit one quad 5 before losing my initial $400. This was a brutal one. What can I say except this is a marathon and not a sprint, sessions like this happen, hopefully not very often or I'll be freeing myself to pursue other interests. Not
Much more to add except tomorrow is another day.
Cheers
Whether you sit on one machine and bang away for hours, or play every job machine in the room, I don't see this number changing.
I have to admit to being a machine surfer. After doing this for a very long time, I have to agree is doesn't affect the results one bit. It does slow your play and psychologically it helps to keep your spirits up, after that you're just burning calories. One hand is just as good as another no matter what machine you're on. I enjoy doing this and it doesn't hurt anything so who cares? It does keep the slot attendants busy pushing in chairs.
