Re: My Journey on Video Poker
You'll have the best of both worlds when the "Walking Dead" slot machine comes out...
Comes out? It's been out...
I just now noticed this post from Vman. I can't think of a snappy comeback but apparently the Chicago Cubs got my back. Bye-bye redbirds.......

The Walking Dead slot is the truth, it has been out since 2014. It was one of the first times a slot with a mega progressive jackpot was themed after a sitcom that is airing and at its prime right now. Thus the royalties that AMC is getting for using the theme is the highest ever. This year Aristocrat is taking it further with Sons of Anarchy, they share the same progressive jackpot starting at half million dollars.
It is unfortunate that the Redbirds are done for the season after winning 100 games. They were unfortunate to have an injured starter (Martinez, ace WainWright was out for most of the season and came out relief), injured catcher (Molina, I feel that is the biggest reason), and a first baseman by committee.
Those young Cubs can really hit. Excited to see if they will face the Dodgers or Mets. If the Mets make it, those Mets hurlers can bring the heat. The Dodgers have their share of rookies to make it interesting to watch the NLCS.

+300.... .25c 10/6 ddb...two big hands, 3333A and AAAAK. The 4 aces with kicker still dodging me and its feistiness is affecting my bottom line a lot. I hope it comes sooner than later.
Not sure how baseball got into this, but Cubs seem the team of destiny to me. Not from there, more an Angels fan myself raised in Anaheim hills. Slight dodgers fan but neither here nor there.
Don't play much slots unless I'm out with family or friends, but will give walking dead a whirl if able to.
Cheers
Ps just uploaded YouTube episode 4C virtual session of ugly deuces triple play using win poker software and which rounds off the deuces wild series. Episode 5 will be the bear to play 10/7 double bonus poker. Can find it typing video poker in the desert. Cheers.

Congrats on your turnaround DAAnMAAn. Baseball got in because Vman lives in the St. Louis area and me being from Chicago, had to poke the bear just a bit.

+600... .25c 10/6 ddb...It wasn't supposed to be a win. Far from it. Couldn't hit the side of a barn. Lost my initial $400 session bankroll in about 1.5 hours hitting 4 queens from saving one queen and four fives from saving two fives. But nothing else. So, was going to call it but had some additional play time on my hands, was feeling good minus the steam, and thought why not. So took out another $200 and stayed more or less even until I hit the home run from the bottom of the 9th with two outs...flopped 10,J,K,A of hearts...saved them and hit the button without much diddle-datty because I know my chances are 1 in 47 of hitting the Q of hearts and I like to absorb the pain of the miss as quickly as possible
But no pain, hit the Q of hearts and saved what should of been another sizeable loss into a very sizeable win. Of course I pounded the padding of the end of the machine and cursed it for the struggle it gave me, but thanked the poker gods at the same time that it gave me the best out possible. Picture is below. It's why we play video poker, the royal flush. Now if I could just hit the darn quad Aces with a frickin kicker :)Cheers

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Congratulations. I get absurdly confident with four to a straight or royal flush. I sit there and imagine collecting my riches for a minute. Don't even kid about that lesser hand after hitting the Loch Ness hand. What's the frequency of AAAAK anyway?

Nice progressive hit buddy;went from zero to hero pretty quickly. Well except of course to those other players trying to hit the progressive right along with you.
Congrats.

Seeing a Royal Flush is a prettier sight to me than 4 aces with any 2, 3, 4 (I see it enough times at the casino since so many people play DDB). Congrats to you on recovering from recent losses!

-400... .25c bonus deuces prog... -300 .50c 10/6 ddb...
This bonus deuces was high variance but with quad deuces with A kicker at $800 and Royal at almost $1200 and full points, good enough play for me. But alas, nothing popped.
Had $300 left in my wallet, made the bad decision on the way out to try to get a lucky shot at .50c ddb. Didn't happen. More upset about losing the $300 than the $400, at least the bonus deuces was a good play at the right denimination.
But once again, I tried a real crap shoot at a higher denomination and it bit me once again. Perhaps this is the beat down I needed to teach me to stop doing dumb plays like this.
Maybe not, we'll see. At any rate, may have to reign it in some for this month is not going well. Seems October is trying to make up for the great August and September.
One thing is for sure, tomorrow is another day.
Cheers

Decided I'm going to change gears a bit and go back to the basics, the roots, one of the games that started it all for me...full pay deuces wild. Although the game is a real grind, and at times the whopping 100.76% return advertised seems like not true advertising,
It's not as sexy as ddb or tdb, but it's more dependable,
Loyal, and a better return in the long term.
Also has a few advantages for me:
1. I can resist the urge to increase the denominations of the game from .25c to .50c to $1 to $2 and so on because it's only available in .25c.
Check
2. It's only available in a non-smoking area so I can save
On cigarillos and don't have to deal with other smokers.
Check
3. I know the strategy pretty cold and play fast and accurate. A few hours on my software and it's off to the races for me. Check
4. The expected return is 100.76% and the variance is 25. On the 10/6 ddb, the expected return is 100.06% and the variance is 42. So...higher return, lower variance (theoretically speaking). Double check
Some of the downsides of fpdw:
1. It can get boring, a super grind, and monotonous. Check
2. Only two jackpot hands, quad deuces and a royal, while ddb has arguably 6 bonus hands: Royal, aces, aces with kicker, 2,3,4 with kicker. Some would argue 9 hands with regular 2,3,4. Check
Consensus: I moved to 10/6 ddb partly because of the bottom reasons,
But honestly it's a more exciting game for sure... I hit a royal on fpdw a long time ago, took a shot at ddb, was successful, and have been riding the ddb roller coast pretty much since. But October has seen the down side of ddb and it's a sharp drop. Not to be outdone by poorly timed pot shots.
Bottom Line Is, the tea leaves are telling me leave ddb for awhile and go back to the roots... Start grinding again on the fpdw. Will take pictures of quad deuces and royals. And we will see at the end of October and several sessions if we can get back some of the losses of this month or not. Time will tell.
Till next post,
Cheers
